About Me

David Mavricos is a classically-trained EMC actor based in the DC area. David received his BA in Theater and Physics from Dartmouth College and his MFA in Classical Acting from the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University, and has performed in NYC, DC, and regionally in classical and contemporary work. Trained both in the States and abroad, David is versed in many different methodologies, which has allowed him to synthesize his creative process into one that is truly dynamic. As an artist, he seeks creative ways to invite audiences to participate in the art of performance, and believes in the importance of theatre as a cornerstone of visceral, cultural expression. David continually looks for new and exciting means of expression and performance, taking inspiration not only from the arts but from the sciences too, as both continually search for profound universal truth. In addition to being an actor, David is a writer, musician, and amateur photographer.

Check out his headshots and resume.

This season, David performed as Balthasaar in Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Romeo and Juliet directed by Alan Paul, understudied Folger Theatre’s Second Shepherd’s Play directed by Mary Hall Surface, and played Kilian Dempsey in the American premiere of Fiona Doyle’s Coolatully, directed by Rex Daugherty for Solas Nua in Washington, DC.

David is a founding member of the arts organization Walterhoope, whose mission is to create multi-disciplinary, innovative art and to cultivate authentic relationships with its audience. This summer, Walterhoope will be bringing their innovative event, The Macbeth, to Covington, KY, in partnership with Baker-Hunt Arts and Cultural Center and Educational Chef Kristen St. Clair of In the Field. At this event, food, music, art, and performance collide in one unforgettable evening as we drop these classic characters into present day midwest America. Check out what we’re working on!

“Mavricos portrays Kilian’s aching vulnerability through his adroit body language.”
DC Metro Theatre Arts, Solas Nua’s Coolatully

“The cast are so polished that it feels like a hologram, a film shot in 1,000 takes and somehow projected in full reality.”
DC Theatre Scene, Solas Nua’s Coolatully

“The three storytellers in Quotidian Theatre Company’s “This Lime Tree Bower,” … spin Conor McPherson’s Irish tale with low-key confidence. … These actors ride the current of McPherson’s thoughtful, funny plot with laid-back ease.”
Washington Post, Quotidian Theatre Company’s This Lime Tree Bower

“David Mavricos suppresses Frank’s anger and sense of righteousness in a quiet, compelling performance.”

“With just a few sentences, Mavricos conveys Frank’s dangerous volatility, a crackling electricity and a seething, silent, deadly tension.”
DC Metro Theatre Arts, Quotidian Theatre Company’s This Lime Tree Bower

“David Mavricos … adds unconventional physicality to Romeo’s moments of despair and rage that powerfully underline his emotional journey through the play.”
DC Metro Theatre Arts, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet

“[I]t is the young lovers who make it all work. Lauren M. Davis as Juliet and David Mavricos as Romeo remind us of our young selves when we first fell in love or even when we had our first crush – the joy, the rapture, the impatience and sorrow.”
MD Theatre Guide, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet

“David Mavricos’ [Romeo is] excellent.”
WYPR 88.1 FM, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet

“The cast as a whole is top-notch. [The ensemble, including] David Mavricos, … show nuanced and powerful moments throughout.”
BroadwayWorld.com, The National Theatre of Scotland and RSC’s Dunsinane in association with the Shakespeare Theatre Company

“Mavricos and Willem Krumich, as the cousins Arcite and Palamon, form a terrific display of male bonding.”
Washington City Paper, Brave Spirits Theatre’s The Two Noble Kinsmen

“David Mavricos too, gives an expert performance as Arcite, who seems touchingly mystified at how quickly his relationship with his beloved cousin goes sour.”
BrightestYoungThings.com, Brave Spirits Theatre’s The Two Noble Kinsmen

“Mavricos and Krumich maintain a gravitas in their bearing, but their line readings are timed so deftly that the humor in their conversations with each other, with the Jailer, and with Theseus skips to the fore.”
Shakespeareances.com, Brave Spirits Theatre’s The Two Noble Kinsmen

“Also making a strong debut is young Shakespearean actor David Mavricos, suitably spirited and princely as Ferdinand.”
Baltimore Sun, Annapolis Shakespeare Company’s The Tempest

“Ferdinand, portrayed by David Mavricos, is naifish yet confident in a balanced … way even in the face of the all-powerful Prospero.”
DC Metro Theatre Arts, Annapolis Shakespeare Company’s The Tempest

“Mavricos gives a stand-out performance.”
DC Metro Theatre Arts, Pallas Theatre Collective’s She Stoops to Conquer

David Mavricos is a “standout.”
